Pretoria to Windhoek

Arrive in Johannesburg where you’ll be met and transferred to your hotel in Pretoria. Then enjoy some time at leisure.

Stay: Sheraton Pretoria Hotel

Board your train at Capital Park Station to begin your journey of some 1,600 kilometres. Over the next two days, you’ll travel through a variety of landscapes — from South Africa’s highveld region, through rolling grasslands to the acclaimed winery country of Cape Town. On board, relax in your suite, or unwind with a drink in the Lounge Car or Observation Car.

Arrive in Kimberley, famous for its diamond mining past, thanks to the first recorded discovery here in 1871. Enjoy a city tour, then visit the ‘Big Hole’ — the result of a diamond rush and thought to be the largest man made hole in the world. Tour the open-air Mine Museum to retrace the steps of miners before re-boarding your train.

Stop in the Klein Karoo town of Matjiesfontein and visit the Transport Museum. Back on board, journey through the tunnels along the Hex River in the Hex River Valley before arriving in Cape Town. Disembark and transfer to your hotel.

Fly from Cape Town to Kruger National Park, South Africa’s largest and most diverse game park. Arrive at your lodge located within breathtaking surrounds. Enjoy the scenery and sundowner drinks.

Rise early before heading out on a morning game drive with experienced trackers. It’s then back to your lodge for lunch before setting off again this afternoon. Fly to Livingstone in Zambia and arrive at your hotel, on the stunning Zambezi River. Settle in before taking a short walk through the hotel’s gardens to Victoria Falls. This evening, board the Royal Livingstone Express steam train for a journey over the Victoria Falls bridge, while you enjoy a five course dinner, drinks and spectacular views.

Journey to Victoria Falls Airport in Zimbabwe for your flight to Windhoek, the Namibian capital. Transfer to your hotel upon arrival.

Board your private plane and fly to Sossusvlei. Set off on an excursion to learn about the harsh environment of the Namib Desert. After lunch, board a short flight to NamibRand Nature Reserve. Re-board your private plane and enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the great Dune Sea of the Namib Desert. On reaching the coast (fog levels permitting), you may also see abandoned mining camps and shipwrecks. Land at Walvis Bay and board a cruise to see dolphins and seals, ending with a picnic lunch along the beach. Continue by plane to Onguma Private Game Reserve, on the border of Etosha National Park.
