In Osaka arrive by 1pm and transfer to your small ship, moored in Kobe and enjoy a Welcome Dinner aboard as you set sail.

Visit a classic tea house and enjoy a cup of Matcha tea in the beautifully manicured gardens, Koraku-en. Wander along historic Kurashiki's koi filled canals to discover 17th-century wooden warehouses. Visit the Ohara Museum of Art, which includes rare works by Matisse, Picasso and Renoir.

Arrive in Miyajima, considered one of Japan’s scenic wonders and go ashore to explore the World Heritage-listed Itsukushima Jinja Shrine. Alternatively, join one of your Expedition Team members for a walk to visit the shrine. Later, continue to Hiroshima and perhaps visit the Peace Memorial Park. Alternatively, go on a hike to Sandankyo Gorge.

Arrive in the pearl cultivation centre of Uwajima, situated in Uwajima Bay. During a visit to a pearl farm, learn the process of implanting, harvesting, extracting and sorting these precious pearls. Afterwards, explore Sakiiya Square and the historic Dairakuji Temple.

Arrive this morning in Nagasaki, the second city destroyed by an A-bomb in World War II. Tour the Peace Park, Atomic Bomb Museum and Dejima Island. Visit the European-style homestead, whose Clover Gardens are famous for being the setting of Puccini’s opera, Madame Butterfly.

Sail overnight to South Korea and anchor in Masan. Take a tour inland to the Haeinsa Temple, regarded as one of the three great temples of Korea. Learn about ancient Buddhist traditions that date back to 802. Enjoy lunch in a nearby restaurant before returning to Masan where you can visit the vibrant fish market.

From Ulsan, embark on a day trip to Gyeongju. Learn about the city’s cultural heritage as you explore the national museum and stroll amid hundreds of excavated monuments, temples, tombs and pagodas. At lunch, sample Korean delicacies and take in a traditional dance performance. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure.

Sail overnight back to Japan and visit historic Hagi, capital of the Mori Clan, during the Feudal Age. On a tour explore the city's districts with temples, old samurai houses, Hagi Castle and Shizuki Park.

Known as the ‘town of water,’ Matsue nestles between a scenic lake and a serene lagoon. Perhaps explore Matsue Castle before a cruise on the castle moat. Alternatively, tour the town of Daisen and take a nature hike through the forests and meadows around Mount Daisen.

Explore Kanazawa today, known for its lacquerware, Kutani-style pottery and delicate hand-painting. Spend the day on Japan's sixth largest island, Sado. Visit the Taiko centre to learn about the famous drum's history. Explore the fishing village of Shukunegi, featuring traditional Edo-period houses. You may wish to take a ride aboard the unique local boats called tarai-bune, which resemble wooden tubs and are used for abalone fishing. Arrive this evening into Niigata.
