Your journey through the small farming community of Lakelands takes you to a magnificent escarpment, known as Quinkan country, ranked by UNESCO as one of the top 10 rock art areas in the world. Here, an Indigenous guide will take you to Split Rock. Afterwards, continue your journey with a visit to the Old Laura Homestead, then to Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park, before arriving at Lotus Bird Lodge.

Stop at Musgrave, the only remaining overland telegraph station on the peninsula. Explore the fascinating old gold mining town of Coen, then continue to the town of Weipa, on the shores of the Gulf of Carpentaria, where you will enjoy a lovely sunset cruise.

This morning you will discover the Western Cape Cultural Centre (WCCC). Immerse yourself in the history and culture of the region at the centre, which is unique and an engaging attraction for the local community and visitors. The centre showcases the history of Weipa and its surrounding communities. It plays an important role in preserving traditional language and culture from the region, through its informative displays and artworks. The Cultural Centre was refurbished in 2012, following a $250,000 investment from Rio Tinto. In late 2016 the centre was purchased by the Western Cape Communities Trust and now owned and managed by 11 Traditional Owner Groups who are signatories to the Western Cape Communities Coexistence Agreement. Continue along rugged dirt roads through remote areas of Cape York to Moreton Telegraph Station, which was completed in 1887 and only ceased communication operations in 1987. Today, it is now a holiday park located beside the Wenlock River, which is the idyllic spot to spend an afternoon at leisure.
