Following breakfast this morning, you’ll traverse the spectacular alpine vista of New Zealand and arrive at Milford Sound. Described by some as the eighth wonder of the world, Milford Sound is simply breathtaking. With soaring cliffs rising from dark waters, mammoth glaciers and mountain peaks painting the horizon, you’ll never want to close your eyes. The day is yours to explore the incredible fiords of the South West corner of the South Island. This area is rich in history, majestic scenery and wildlife. Only accessible by sea, it is the most remote region of New Zealand. With APT you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to delve into the heart of the area. Perhaps explore Astronomer’s Point, Doubtful Sound and Dusky Sound by Zodiac, which will allow greater exploration of these spectacular natural landscapes.Daily :
Discover Stewart Island, a wonderfully tranquil destination abundant with wildlife. Board a Zodiac and take in a morning on Ulva Island, enjoying a guided walk through dense vegetation of the open island sanctuary with your Expedition Team. Known as Stewart Island’s ‘Jewel in the Crown’, the island is completely predator free for rare and endangered native birds. This afternoon, you’ll land at Oban with the chance to wander amongst the shops and see the Rakiura Museum. Alternatively, join a drive to Observation Rock, which boasts views over Iona and Ulva Island and the pristine beaches of the east coast.Daily :
Dock this morning at Dunedin. Known as the ‘Edinburgh of the South’, Dunedin boasts picturesque landscapes that are surrounded by dramatic hills and rugged beaches. This morning, tailor your experience with your choice of sightseeing activity. Join a guided tour of the city’s 19th century buildings and the beautiful botanical gardens, which contain over 6,800 plant species. Or alternatively, you may choose to drive to the Otago Peninsula to visit Penguin Place, where you will learn about the breeding and conservation program of the rare Yellow-eyed penguin that inhabit the coastal waters. You’ll also visit the Royal Albatross Centre at Taiaroa Head. Spend the afternoon at leisure.
You’ll spend a full day in Akaroa today. You may choose to select from various excursions including a dolphin watching trip along the panoramic coastline or a guided historic walk in Akaroa, which continues through to the native bush of the Garden of Tane. You may also like to visit a historical working farm in the countryside before enjoying tea in the farm grounds after a tour. Or alternatively, you may simply wander the town and enjoy the local atmosphere.
Spend the day in Kaikoura, a famous whale watching area in New Zealand due to its deep and nutrient-rich waters. After breakfast, join a whale watching cruise, where you’ll look out for sperm whales, dusky dolphins and common seals. This afternoon, explore the town at your leisure, join a nature walk, or enjoy a bird-watching cruise (own expense). The area is abundant with birdlife, keep an eye out for the Great Albatross, Banded Albatross, Shearwater Petrels, Prions and Shags.Daily :
From our central berth you’ll explore Wellington on a morning guided walk, passing St Paul’s Cathedral, the parliament buildings, and the Botanical Gardens before spending time in the Te Papa National Museum of New Zealand. Here you’ll admire the wide range of interactive displays and the marvellous Maori collection. Return to your ship for lunch before an afternoon to explore Wellington at your own pace. Perhaps stroll down to the craggy shorelines, admire the sweeping views from one of the many hilltop lookouts or take to the city centre and wander through the galleries, boutiques and museums.Daily :
Sail through Marlborough Sounds, which divide the North and South Islands of New Zealand, and arrive in the early morning at Resolution Bay on the South Island. Keen walkers can enjoy a longer hike over to Ship Cove along the Queen Charlotte Track which affords fantastic views over the archipelago of islands. Alternatively, view the monument dedicated to Captain James Cook, or walk the forest trail to the nearby waterfall. Return to your ship for lunch and spend the afternoon at sea enjoying a highly informative and engaging lecture from our special guest speaker Kenneth Park, followed by the soulful sounds of your entertainment duo, Amazon Blue.Daily :
By the morning, your ship will have arrived in the beautiful town of Napier where you’ll join a sightseeing tour. Rebuilt after the devastating 1931 Hawkes Bay earthquake in the popular architectural style of the time, Napier’s Art Deco is truly unique. You’ll also visit a local vineyard to sample the local wines. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure to explore the town, or join an excursion to Gannetry at Cape Kidnappers (own expense). Enjoy a relaxing morning at sea before arriving at the remote and volcanic White Island. Weather permitting, you’ll board a Zodiac and take a guided tour to explore the island’s active volcano, identifiable by the plume of steam continually spouting from its crater. The sights are surreal; the main crater with towering walls, steaming vents, glittering yellow sulphur crystals, bubbling mud pots and a spectacular steaming lake.Daily :
Visit a local Maori Marae where you will enjoy a traditional Maori welcome and lunch.
From our berth in Tauranga you’ll travel inland to the thermal springs at Rotorua. Discover Wai-O-Tapu, an active geothermal area with hot springs, steaming ground and boiling mud pools. Marvel at the incredible palette of vibrant hues displayed in the pools, lakes and craters, and enjoy the melodic sounds of birds singing in the native forest.
