Celebrating Twenty Tours with APT
Twenty tours and counting! APT guests Wayne and Sue Gill share their highlights from over 15 years of travel with APT.
You have travelled with APT 20 times! Why is APT your tour provider of choice?
APT does travel the way we like it. Itineraries that take us to and through our dream destinations at the depth we prefer, but also with the quality and efficiency we highly appreciate. We've come to know that if the itinerary suits our interest, the whole package will meet our standards. We particularly find the quality of the APT tour directors often make for the most memorable experiences. The combination of local knowledge and professional process management skills make the trip seamless, even when unexpected challenges arise.
When did your APT journey start?
We started travelling with APT in 2010, with a combined tours of Eastern Europe, Budapest to Bucharest river cruise on the Danube and Türkiye. It was 25 days of excellent experiences. Our Tour Director Helena was amazing and could well be the first reason we returned to APT for subsequent trips.
Which has been your favourite APT tour?
Difficult question. Top contenders would be South Africa and Croatia. In the first, our small group travelled from Cape Town along the Garden Route, then up to the amazing safari lodge, then cruising on the Chobe River and on to Victoria Falls. It was such a magical journey through the land and on the river, with so much wildlife! And wonderful accommodation as well. We had done a couple of African tours before, but this was the best.
Our other stand-out was the small ship cruise along the Croatian coast as part of the larger APT Balkans tour. The MV Lady Eleganza was an amazing yacht with only our small group on board along with a marvellous crew. Being able to access the smaller ports really made for a memorable experience.
But we have enjoyed all of our APT trips, from our touring around Australia including the Kimberley (both overland and from the sea), Far North Queensland, Tasmania and most recently, Lake Eyre, South Australia, through to exploring Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Cambodia in Asia, and many parts of Europe, they are all memorable.
What do you expect from an APT tour?
In the early days, we worried about lots of details and "what-ifs". With experience, we've come to feel very comfortable that the APT team will look after everything and we can truly relax and enjoy the journey.

Tell us about your most recent tour
Lake Eyre and the Painted Hills, it was fantastic to see the historically unusual amounts of water flowing into Lake Eyre and have the opportunity to see such a different part of Australia.
You have done multiple cruises with APT, what advice would you give to someone contemplating their first cruise?
We have done many cruises. The quality of the ship and shipboard experience is critical, but for us the ship isn't a destination in itself. We prefer smaller ships and plenty off shore experiences. Multiple days at sea are not our ideal. So our advice would be to be clear on what you want from your cruise experience - then choose a itinerary, ship and destination that suits your tastes.
Which tour would you like to go on next?
We are looking forward to the APT India tour: Golden Triangle, Kolkata, Varanasi and Lower Ganges Cruise.
