Highlights from a Canadian Adventure
Discover the best accommodation, dining and experiences Canada has to offer
Unmissable Inclusion
Taking in the view from Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, a truly magnificent property with the lake right at its doorstep was just breathtaking.
Favourite Accommodation
The Fairmont properties are simply incredible — you have to see them to believe them! Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge perfectly captured the essence of rugged Canada with its charming, cabin-style accommodation. Elk roamed freely on the grounds and seeing them grazing by the lake with the sunrise reflecting off the water during a morning walk was truly magical.
Standout Experience
The Rocky Mountaineer — the stunning views were endless, and it was remarkable to see the Rockies in their untouched, majestic beauty, all from the comfort of the train. The service throughout the journey was outstanding, and every meal was delicious.
Photo-Worthy View
Lake Moraine — the water was so still and such a striking shade of blue that it almost looked unreal. Combined with the snow-capped peaks in the background, it made for an unforgettable view and the perfect photo opportunity.
Moment of Luxury
The helicopter sightseeing flight in Banff was an incredible experience! Soaring through the mountains with a bird’s-eye view of the lakes and wilderness, you truly see the vastness and beauty of Canada’s untouched landscape. It’s a view — and a feeling — I will never forget. This Freedom of Choice experience is one I would highly recommend.
Favourite Flavours
There were many! I loved trying Canadian favourites such as poutine and beaver tails in Banff (a sweet pastry — don’t worry!). Our local tour guides had plenty of great recommendations.
At the Fairmont hotel, a couple of dishes really stood out — the chicken cannelloni at Fairmont Banff Springs and the albacore tuna tataki at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Some of the more adventurous guests even tried elk steak, so there really is something for everyone!
Unforgettable Wildlife Encounter
Wildlife spotting was one of my favourite parts of the tour because you never knew where or when you’d see something — it felt like a fun game! We were incredibly lucky to spot a moose in the Rockies, bears at Grouse Mountain, and plenty of majestic elk and bighorn sheep along the way.
Treasured Memory
Our Tour Director, Mary, was phenomenal. Her passion, knowledge, and experience truly highlighted the value of travelling with APT. We shared many laughs and jokes along the way, but one moment I’ll always remember was during a coach ride through the evergreen forests. Mary recounted a heartwarming conversation she’d had with a past guest many years ago — they’d said, “There’s a tree here for every boy and girl at Christmas.” Looking out at the endless trees whizzing past, you could almost believe it.
Expert Advice
Take your photos, then put your phone or camera away to truly soak it all in. The beauty, tranquillity, and stillness of these Canadian landscapes are unlike anything you’ll have experienced before.
From the Gift Shop
Every great trip deserves a souvenir! Rocky Mountaineer offered fantastic mementos you could buy before boarding or on the train itself. I couldn’t resist taking home Jasper the Bear, all dressed up in his train conductor uniform.
